Evources

Cross-cohort knowledge base

Evources is a knowledge base for university students to share resources across cohorts, including elective choices, internships, and financial aid. With new students exploring new opportunities, the list of resources will keep evolving and help upcoming cohorts achieve more.

I created this project after observing my fellow classmates struggling to get the most out of the programs they are studying in, especially for graduate programs, in which elective and internship decisions greatly influence the career path after graduation. The project aims at crowdsourcing experiences from fellow students so that newcomers can avoid mistakes and make informed decisions. UX Research and Lo-fi Prototype

I chose my fellow classmates in the UC Berkeley MDes program as the initial target users since it is easier to conduct extensive interviews and empathize. Apart from qualitative research like user interviews and focus groups, quantitative research was also performed to gather more insights from the entire program.

The lo-fi prototype focuses specifically on the elective exploration experience. Existing ways that students use to search for electives were compared and analyzed. The lo-fi prototype testing revealed that information like syllabus, sample projects and course reviews are particularly useful for users.

Hi-fi Prototype

Based on the feedback for the lo-fi prototype, class suggestions are added to the homepage to give users some directions to start.

The search interface provides filtering functionalities that help users narrow down the result. Filters for attributes like topics and sample projects allow users to target electives more strategically.

On the result page, syllabus, showcases, and reviews are listed in addition to basic class information.
